Real Food for Kids Applauds FDA’s Ban on Red Dye No. 3

The Food and Drug Administration’s recent decision to ban Red Dye No. 3 from food, beverages, and drugs marks a significant step toward improving public health and food safety.

In a segment on NBC’s TODAY Show, Real Food for Kids Executive Director Bonnie Moore applauded the FDA’s action. “This is such a step in the right direction,” said Moore. “We hope it paves the way for removing more artificial dyes and additives from our food supply. For years, evidence has pointed to the risks associated with this synthetic red dye. Its long-awaited ban aligns with our mission to advocate for nutrition security for children and families through access to real, whole foods—particularly in schools.”

Real Food for Kids also urges consumers and food manufacturers to embrace natural, healthful ingredients. “I’m not a scientist, but we follow the science,” Moore added. “We’re especially grateful to the Center for Science in the Public Interest for their tireless work to protect public health and promote food safety.”

Founded in 2010 by concerned parents, Real Food for Kids has championed scratch cooking in schools as the most effective way to eliminate harmful additives found in processed foods.
