Do You Want Healthier Foods in Our Schools?
Healthy school meals have the potential to be a powerful academic and public health intervention for every kid in every school. Food insecurity, paired with persistent high levels of childhood and adolescent obesity – along with the alarming associated diseases – demand public action on many fronts, starting in our schools.
Research proves that healthy school meals close academic achievement gaps, reduce behavioral imbalances, increase physical and emotional well-being, cut healthcare costs, improve graduation rates and lead to higher levels of attainment in the workforce.
• Real Food for Kids unites parents, community members and local leaders to improve school meals through sustained positive advocacy and collaboration
• We change school menus AND build a lasting commitment from administrators and elected officials to put our kids’ health first when making decisions around school food
• Active engagement by parents, students and community members in our school systems is key to affecting these changes
New Parent Action Teams are being formed throughout the Greater Washington Region. Join us at one of our Information Sessions. Learn how to identify needs and initiate action on the local level as well as contributing to our core mission – improving school food so our kids can thrive academically, physically and emotionally - now and into adulthood.
Additional Information Sessions may be added. To be notified of updates to this schedule, please join our email list.
Real Food For Kids is committed to working in collaboration with our partners to increase the quantities of healthful foods in our school systems, developing and delivering programs that educate our students and their families on making healthier lifestyle choices, and ensuring access to real whole foods for all school children.
